In the early 19th Century a papyrus, dating from the end of the Middle Kingdom, was found in Egypt. It was taken to the Leiden Museum in Holland and interpreted by A.H. Gardiner in 1909. The complete papyrus can be found in the book Admonitions of an Egyptian from a heiratic papyrus in Leiden. The papyrus describes violent upheavals in Egypt, starvation, drought, escape of slaves (with the wealth of the Egyptians), and death throughout the land. The papyrus was written by an Egyptian named Ipuwer and appears to be an eyewitness account of the effects of the Exodus plagues from the perspective of an average Egyptian. Below are excerpts from the papyrus together with their parallels in the Book of Exodus.

 

19세기 초반,, (고대이집트) 중왕국끝으로까지 거슬러올라가는 한 파피루스 종이가 이집트에서

발견되었습니다. 그것은 네들란드 라이덴 박물관(the Leiden Museum in Holland )으로 가져가졌고,, 1909 년에 A.H. Gardiner 에 의해 해독되었습니다. 그 전체파피루스는 책자  Leiden 의

한 신관파피루스본에서 나온 "한 이집트인의 책망" 에서  볼 수 있습니다.

그 파리루스는 이집트에서의 과격한 격변적 사건들,,굶주림, 가뭄, 노예들의 탈출(그 이집트인들의

재물을 가지고서) 그 땅전역의 사망을 묘사하고있습니다. 그 파피루스는 Ipuwer 이라는 이름의

한 이집트인에 의해 기록되었는데,, 그냥 한 평범한 이집트(애굽)의 시각에서 본 그 탈출 재앙의

결과들을 직접눈으로 목격한 기술인듯 보입니다. 아래는 그 파피루서에서 발췌한것으로,

출애굽기에서 그것과 대응되는것을 나란히 기록한 것입니다.

That is our happiness! What shall we do in respect thereof? All is ruin. 3:10-13 저게 우리물이야! 저게 우리의 행복이야! 저걸 어떻해야하지? 모두 망쳤어.	7:20 …all the waters of the river were turned to blood. 7:20 ''' 강의 모든물이 피로 변했다.    7:21 ...there was blood thoughout all the land of Egypt …and the river stank. 7:21 ''' 이집트 지면전체에 피가 있었다''' 그래서 강이 냄새가 지독했다.   7:24 And all the Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. 7:24 그러자 모든 이집트인들이 마실물을 구하러,, 강을파헷치며 돌아다녔다.
2:10 Forsooth, gates, columns and walls are consumed by fire. 2:10  정말, 문들과 기둥, 담벽들이 불에 삼켜졌어.   10:3-6 Lower Egypt weeps... The entire palace is without its revenues. To it belong [by right] wheat and barley, geese and fish   2:10 하 이집트는 탄식한다.. 전 왕궁이 재정이 없다, 합법적으로 밀과 보리, 오리와 생선이 궁전것이다  6:3 Forsooth, grain has perished on every side. 6:3 정말, 곡식이 온 사방에서 망쳐버렸다.   5:12 Forsooth, that has perished which was yesterday seen. The land is left over to its weariness like the cutting of flax. 5:12 정말,, 그것이 어제 망쳐저 버린것이 보였다. 그 땅이 아마의 베어버림처럼 힘없이 남겨졌다.	9:23-24 ...and the fire ran along the ground... there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous. 9:23-24 ... 그러자 불이 땅바닥을 따라 굴러달렸다... 우박이 있어,, 그 불과 뒤섞였다,, 아주 비극적이었다.    9:25 ...and the hail smote every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field. 9:25 ... 그리고 그 우박이 들판의 모든식물을 내리쳐서, 그 들판의 모든 나무를 망가뜨렸다.   9:31-32 ...and the flax and the barley was smitten; for the barley was in season, and flax was ripe. 9:31-32 ... 그래서 아마와 보리가 얻어맞었으니 ; 이는 그 보리가 무르익었었고, 아마가 잘 익었음이라.   But the wheat and the rye were not smitten; for they were not grown up. 하지만 밀과 퀴리는 얻어맞지 않았으니 ; 이는 그들이 다 자라지 않았음이라.   10:15 ...there remained no green things in the trees, or in the herbs of the fields, through all the land of Egypt.   10:15 ... 나무들에 전혀 푸른것이라곤 남아있지 않았다, 들판의 식물도,, 이집트(애굽) 땅 전역에
5:5 All animals, their hearts weep. Cattle moan... 5:5 모든 동물들,, 그들 가슴이 운다, 가축들이 곡한다...  9:2-3 Behold, cattle are left to stray, and there is none to gather them together. 9:2-3 보라 가축들이 남겨져 제 길을 벗어난다, 그래서 아무것도 그것들이 함께 모이지 않는다.	9:3 ...the hand of the Lord is upon thy cattle which is in the field... and there shall be a very grievous sickness. 9:3 ...주의 손이 그대 들판이 있는들 가축들 위에 임했으니,, 그래서 아주 비통한 질병들이 있을 것이라.  9:19 ...gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field... 9:21 And he that did not fear the word of the Lord left his servants and cattle in the field. 9:19 ... 그대가축들을 모으라, 그대가 들판에 가지고 있는 모두를.. 9:21 ... 주의 말을 두려워하지 않은 그는 그의 종들과 가축을 들판에 남겨두었다.
9:11 The land is without light 9:11 그 땅이 빛이 없다.	10:22 And there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt. 10:22 그러자 짙은 어둠이 이집트 전역에 있었다.
4:3 (5:6) Forsooth, the children of princes are dashed against the walls. 4:3 (5:6) 과연, 장관들의 자녀들이 그 성벽을 향해 뛰어들었다 . 6:12 Forsooth, the children of princes are cast out in the streets. 6:12 과연, 장관들의 자녀들이 거리에 내동댕이 쳐 있다. 6:3 The prison is ruined. 6:3 감옥이 폐허가 되었다. 2:13 He who places his brother in the ground is everywhere. 2:13 그의 형제을 땅속에 묻은 그가 어디에나 있다. 3:14 It is groaning throughout the land, mingled with lamentations 3:14 그 땅 전역에 곡함이 있어,, 애곡함과,, 섞여있다	12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive that was in the prison. 12:29 그리고 그 일이 일어났다, 한 밤중에 주 여호와가 애굽땅 전역의 모든 첫번째난 것을 쳤다,, 옥좌에 앉아있는 바로로부터 감옥에 있는 포로된자들의 첫번째 난자들까지..    12:30 ...there was not a house where there was not one dead. 12: ... 죽지 않은 집이 한 집도 없었다. 12:30 ...there was a great cry in Egypt. 12:30 .. 이집트(애굽)에 큰 곡이 있었다.
7:1 Behold, the fire has mounted up on high. Its burning goes forth against the enemies of the land. 7:1 보라, 불이 높이 올랐다. 그것의 타고있음 그 땅 원수들을 대항해 나갔다.	13:21 ... by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night. 13:21 ... 낮에는 구름기둥이 그들의 길을 인도하고, 밤에는 불기둥이 그들에게 빛을 주었다,, 밤낮으로 가도록.
3:2 Gold and lapis lazuli, silver and malachite, carnelian and bronze... are fastened on the neck of female slaves. 3:2 금, 청금석, 은, 홍혹수, 공작석, 놋쇠,, 여자노예들목에 걸어 조여졌다.	12:35-36 ...and they requested from the Egyptians, silver and gold articles and clothing. And God made the Egyptians favour them and they granted their request. [The Israelites] thus drained Egypt of its wealth.   12:35-36 .... 그래서 그들이 이집트인들에게 요청했다,, 은,금기물들, 옷들을..그리고 하나님이 이집트인들로 하여금 그들에게 호의를 베풀게 했다, 그래서 ㄱ들이 그들의 요구를 들어주었다. [이스라엘인들]이 이와같이 그 재물을 가지고 이집트를 나왔다.
